Integration
The integrative dimension of IEF provides a comprehensive framework for understanding and integrating the complex interconnections among different aspects of both our personal and work lives. Instead of experiencing these aspects as disconnected, pulling us in multiple directions, the integrative approach enables us to understand and tune these dimensions so they function as a harmonized whole. On a personal level, this is achieved in significant part by centering our lives around core values, passions, and strengths. On a business level, this is achieved by a common focus on mission and business priorities.
Through this alignment we achieve a greater sense of coherence among the different aspects and parts of our selves and our business. At higher and higher states of integration, our sphere of concern and influence moves far beyond self-interest and serves the interests of a broader collective. Our mindset moves from reactive to proactive to one that embraces and adapts to the multiplicity of factors that are present at each inflection point in life and business. Not only do we cultivate an awareness that sees the entire picture, but we develop an adaptive openness to change and new solutions.
This progression gives birth to both natural self-leadership and collective leadership abilities that are not driven by limited self-interests and self-protective instincts. Instead actions are driven by transformative purposes and higher goals. By leading one's own behavior in such a fashion, one serves as an inspiration for others creating an environment of mutual trust.
The process of personal development often begins with the development of a map or picture of our lives, both personal and social. The map arrays out the different facets of our lives which we view as important to fulfillment, such as work, personal time, relationships, health, family, sports, and financial well-being. We also map out the different “parts” of ourselves that are operative in each of these spheres. These parts include both those parts that tend to be reactive and seek to manage ourselves in reaction to challenges and those parts that reflect our inner gifts and talents and provide for an intrinsic sense of creativity, passion, drive and energy.
