My Story
I have advised entrepreneurs and executives over a long professional career, both as a partner and coporate group leader in a preeminent tech law firm and as a coach, mentor and adviser. During my career I have seen every possible challenge that entrepreneurs and executives face in their professional undertakings: challenges with failed business strategies, difficult boards, conflicts with other management, internal betrayals, power struggles….the list goes on. My clientele ranged from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies to small and large non-profits creating change. I have observed great leaders drive teams to great outcomes and significant impact. And just as often I have seen leaders self-destruct and become their own worst enemies.
During my career I became increasingly intrigued by the personal qualities that drive success. Why were certain individuals able to harness their passions, inspire others, manage stress and overcome self-limiting behaviours? Why did some simply fail to get out of their own way? Responding to my clients’ needs, I expanded my role to that of a strategic business adviser as well as personal counsellor to my clients. I also coached and mentored entrepreneurs and advised executives undergoing important professional transitions.
My passion turned towards developing a better understanding of the factors that contribute to effectiveness. I realized that truly effective people are also extremely fulfilled people. They are also people who take ownership over themselves and balance the many parts of their lives. They are people who are not just stuck in their heads, but are comfortable with and use the entire resources of their being. They create, engage with others and see new possibilities. They are people who are totally present for others and lead others by first leading and developing themselves.
I trained to develop skills and approaches to help leaders achieve a greater degree of self-mastery and self-knowledge. I leveraged 25 years in the practice and teaching of mindfulness and tai chi, a lifetime involved in the creative arts and time spent exploring the spiritual dimensions of well-being. I worked on developing potentially transformative approaches. Approaches that would enable people to draw on resources not previously ,accessible to them. I worked with and learned from an array of innovators, experienced coaches and masters in accelerating performance and creating human fulfillment. And through this entire process I also learned by applying these principles to improve my own life.
Formalising my coaching practice was a natural progression from these years of experience. I embrace an approach to success that is largely activated from the inside-out, maximising the intrinsic factors that produce momentum, wholeness, perspective and effectiveness. I combine my coaching approach with a deep and keen awareness of the business realities and challenges that entrepreneurs, executives and professionals deal with on a daily basis, and am there for them as a strategic adviser who understands the world in which they operate.
